Thomson Foundation Mobile Journalism Competition 2020( Win trip to Mojofest in London)

Overview:

The Thomson Foundation mobile journalism competition is a leading showcase for mobile journalism( ‘ mojo’) talent, in partnership with Mojofest. This challenge is all about learning and doing. You’ll need to take part in, and complete, a combination of online courses on mobile journalism and then make a film entirely on a smartphone.

It’s a rigorous competition. Workshops will run throughout March and then, by the end, you’ll be required to produce a video portrait of a change maker in your community.

Winner Prize:

The judges will pick the best stories with the overall winner receiving an all-expenses-paid trip to Mojofest in London between 13-14 May, 2020. At least five others will be shortlisted for outstanding content and each participant who completes the program will be issued with a certificate of achievement.

What will Participant do?

The competition is a great opportunity to build and develop your video production and storytelling skills. Entrants will follow step by step exercises under the guidance of the foundation’s finest trainers and mentors. You will be required to learn to use a mobile phone to:

  • Capture quality images and videos
  • Capture quality audio
  • Film a video interview
  • Edit video
  • Tell a story using video
  • Capture and express emotion through image and video

Requirements:

In order to take part of the competition, you will need to complete four specific assignments, one each week throughout March 2020. These will include the following task:

  • The competition is open to entrants aged 18 or over.
  • Only one entry per person
  • Participate in our global photowalk and share with us your top photos
  • Create and share two video sequences
  • Record and share an interview
  • Create and publish a video story on a change-making member of your community

The competition includes taking part in and producing e-learning content, interactive lives and feedback with our experts, peer to peer interaction, as well as submitting video work.

The Way to Win:

Participants will be scored for a mixture of work completed in the duration of the competition and the final film produced. Judges will consider the following criteria:

  • Your submissions (50%)
  • Your successful completion of at least one of the mojo courses available: (30%)
  • Your feedback and engagement with your peers (20%)

Program Procedure:

  • Week one ( 2 March 2020 ): Telling stories with images by joining our global photowalk, learn how to take good photographs and share your best.
  • Week two ( 9 March 2020): Storytelling and Video sequences by using your image-capturing skills to create powerful videos.
  • Week three (16 March 2020): Video interview and audio by getting close to your subject and share their voice.
  • Week four ( 23 March 2020): Editing and publishing by bringing it all together and tell amazing stories.

Overview

The Cambridge MBA is one of the world’s leading business programmes, taught at one of the world’s most prestigious universities.

Scholarship recipients become members of Pembroke College, the third oldest and one of the most highly regarded colleges.

The Boustany MBA Cambridge Scholarship is granted once every two years for a one year course at Cambridge University, Judge Business School.

Benifits

The Scholarship offers the following:
• Financial aid amounting to £23,000 towards tuition fees
• Travel and accommodation expenses related to the internship.

The next Scholarship will be awarded for the class commencing Autumn 2020.

Eligibility

  • Candidates must have an excellent academic background and show considerable promise. Although the Scholarship can be awarded to candidates of any nation, priority will be given to candidates of Lebanese descent.
  • Candidates may apply for the Scholarship only after receiving an offer of admission from the Cambridge MBA program.
