The British Council is now accepting applications for the Future News Worldwide Conference 2020 in the UK. The British Council’s Future News Worldwide 2020 will take place on 14 and 15 July at Sky’s global headquarters in  London. This is a fully-funded conference in London that will cover all the expenses of the successful applicants.

The British Council Summit is an international summit for the world’s best young media makers. This year they will select 00 of the world’s most talented, motivated and passionate student journalists to attend an intensive media training program. Undergraduate or postgraduate student or recent graduate students from all over the world can apply for the international conference in the United Kingdom.

The successful applicants will receive exclusive coaching from world-leading editors, broadcasters, writers, and reporters, and see how publishers around the world are using technology to find stories and bring them to life like never before.

Background

Future News Worldwide is a partnership program between the British Council and some of the world’s leading media organisations. The aim is to support young people to develop a wide range of journalism skills and to establish the UK as a global leader in the nurturing of young journalists and media figures.

Financial Support

The conference will cover:

  • Return travel from the local airport to London for the dates of the Conference
  • The application fee of one Standard Service visa application (if required)
  • Accommodation
  • Catering

Eligibility

  • must be 18-25 on July 1, 2020
  • be a registered student, enrolled in an undergraduate or postgraduate course (of any subject) at a university or higher education institution OR have graduated from a degree course after 1 July 2018
  • be a native speaker of English OR be able to speak English at IELTS Level 6.5 or equivalent (a formal qualification is not required, just the ability to speak at this level)
  • not have participated in Future News Worldwide or Future NEWS before
  • be dedicated to a career in journalism, in any form
  • be available to travel to and from the UK on any date between 11 – 16 July 2020.
  • PLEASE NOTE: if you are shortlisted for a place at the conference you will be required to provide evidence of eligibility (identity, age, student status and English language ability).

United Nations Youth Champions for Disarmament (Fully Funded Study Tour in Vienna, Geneva, Hiroshima and Nagasaki)

The United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs is looking for young persons (ages 18 – 24) motivated to use their talents to help raise awareness and promote change for a more peaceful and secure world.

In addition to young people with an interest in international affairs or international relations, we also strongly encourage individuals with a background in other areas such as history, science, economics, languages, film, media, dance, song, theater, visual arts, creative writing or any other field to submit an application.

Our intention is to bring together an eclectic and geographically diverse group of young people, from across the globe, who can become advocates for disarmament.

Benefits

  • The ten youth champions will receive training in general principles of disarmament, non-proliferation and arms control through on-line courses and a two-week in-person study tour in Vienna, Geneva, Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The study tour will take place in June 2020
  •  Youth Champions will exchange ideas with disarmament experts from think tanks, civil society organizations and the diplomatic field, and develop their own plans on how to engage in their communities on issues related to disarmament, non-proliferation and arms control.  
  • The United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs will support with mentoring and guidance throughout the program.

Selection of Participants

The Youth Forum aims to bring together multi-disciplinary of young people across the ASEAN region who are interested in the field of criminal justice, ideally at least two youth representatives from each country. Eligible participants will be between the ages of 18 to 25 years. The goal is to achieve a group of participant representatives of a diverse constituency and background.

Objectives

I. Empower Youth Community: The overarching vision is to effectively educate and increase the collaborative capacity of youth in the ASEAN region on a continual basis. By providing a platform to voice perspectives, this forum aims to amplify youth voices and perspectives in the development of sustainable solutions.
II. Promote Cross-Generational Dialogue: In line with the emphasis on cross-pillar and cross-sectoral coordination, this forum takes one step further by encouraging cross-generational coordination. Acknowledging the unique experiences and perspectives across different generations, this forum will strive to bridge the collaboration gap between generations in an effort to foster an open dialogue.
III. Enhance Collaboration: This forum will serve to provide a platform for ongoing collaborative efforts in crime prevention and criminal justice reform. It provides an environment for youth from different countries to network with like minded individuals, exchange practices, discuss
challenges, and jointly identify solutions.
IV. Foster ‘unity in diversity’: At the heart of this forum is the aim of fostering a sense of inclusion. This forum recognizes that sustainable outcomes will not be achieved unless all voices of the population are given weight, especially that of the younger generation from different backgrounds.

#CYA WORKCAMP EXCHANGE PROGRAM

An international work camp is an international voluntary project in which participants from different countries can meet, live, work, learn and exchange with local people. This program aims to foster personal development, develop leadership skills, create impacts on society, and choose a brighter path to future careers.

Project Aims

  1. Raising awareness about the value of mangrove forest to public so that they will join us to preserve, protect, and maintain it by themselves.
  2. Support TFC committee members to continue their work on improving the quality of life of community members through providing better services to tourists while maintaining clean and green environment.

Project Activities

  • Get to know more about local people
  • Continue planting and nursing mangroves
  • Create new leisure activities for tourists
  • Campaigns and Actions on waste management

Living Conditions

  • Food: 3 meals per day will be covered by the participation fee while volunteers will be arranged daily shift to cook your own meals.. Meals will be basic Cambodian dishes. CYA built our own kitchen equipped with basic cooking facilities inside the center. Volunteers will use the kitchen as the main cooking and eating place during the project. The camp – leader will provide you enough information about where you can buy food and ingredients for cooking. Food during free day will be excluded so we would like to ask you to bare your own expenses for that.
  • Accommodation: Volunteers are going to stay in the bungalows provided at the inside the community center.The bungalows are rented by CYA from community members and in each bungalow 3 – 4 volunteers will share together. The accommodation is equipped with simple sleeping mattress, blankets, pillows and mosquito nets. There are separated bathroom and toilet located in the center where you can access by the path. It is not very perfect but this is what the villagers use, and find it very comfortable for their daily life. Accommodation outside the project during the free day is excluded so volunteers are asked to cover your own expenses.
  • Things to Bring:
    • Positive energy to work and live the local lifestyle
    • Idea for energizing game and activities during you free time
    • Knowledge, education, and information about your country so that you can share with other participants
    • More clothes or you will need to wash it every day as you are going to work a lot in the water.
    • Shoes that can walk in the mud and water will be good to bring with you.
    • Some personal medicine such as allergy, mosquito repellent, and other emergencies medicine though we will provide first aids for basic condition.
    • Traditional cloth that you might want to wear in the international night
    • Food and ingredients for international dinner and snack so that you can share with local people.

  • What we expect?
    • Volunteers are read and understood this information. Be in time and stay the entire length of work camp.
    • Volunteers are aware about the concept of international voluntary service, especially International Work Camp which is not a cheap way of spending your holiday but a voluntary activity that need your high motivation and willing to achieve a certain goal together with your team.
    • Realize that living condition in Cambodia is much difference from your home country (no warm water, no air conditioning, not easy to access to international phone and internet, no soft beds, and the food is also differences etc).
    • Volunteers should understand about the aims of the work camp and realize that learning about Cambodian way and social contact is more important than manual work.
    • Volunteers are open minded, leave prejudice behind and show initiative. Volunteers should understand the situation of spending time with local people who do not speak English very well.
    • Volunteers should try the effort in trying to communicate in basic Khmer language or other way of communicating (work, pictures, gestures, etc). If you will try, you will be amazed how quick you will learn basic Khmer language.
    • Do not complain because the changing schedule during the camp, it’s depending on condition and situation. So bring some flexibility and you will stay relax and avoid a lot of stress and frustration for yourself
  • About FREE DAY : Volunteers will have a weekend off to explore some tourist spots around the project site. We will not arrange any tour for everyone therefore, you can discuss among your team about where you would like to spend the weekend together. There are some interesting options for you to explore and the project manager will introduce you to some attractions but still the decision is you and your team decide. He/she also can help to arrange the transportation for you as well if you needed.

YOUTH CO:LAB CAMBODIA

What Is Youth Co:Lab Cambodia?

Youth Co:Lab Cambodia is a 3-month program for youth who are building innovative startups that contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals, and who can ultimately address youth employment through their success and growth.

What will program look like?

Who is eligible?

– Cambodian citizens only
– An entrepreneurial attitude and passion for creating a positive impact through the SDGs
– Minimum of 2 co-founders with the skills and technical ability to execute your business idea
– Women founders and/or a gender diverse team are highly encouraged to apply
– Based in Cambodia
– You can be based anywhere in Cambodia – not just Phnom Penh! But you must be able to travel to Phnom Penh for the Bootcamp, and National Dialogue  (expenses covered if based outside of Phnom Penh).
– Able to travel out of Phnom Penh (or to province) for fieldwork to conduct regular field trips and testing your prototype and business model directly with customers
– Can work on your startup for a minimum of 12 hours per week for the duration of the program (3 months)
– Agree to complete surveys for monitoring and evaluation purposes

G20 GLOBAL LEADERSHIP PROGRAM

1. What will we do?

The intensive two-week program will include an overview of Korea’s development experiences, development policy and G20 agenda issues such as quality infrastructure, climate change & green growth, sustainable development, international trade, aging population, 4th industrial revolution and strengthening of the financial system.

The program also incorporates a field study tour to other parts of the Korean peninsula. In order to witness firsthand Korea’s development experiences, participants will be given an opportunity to visit key industrial and cultural sites.
