RIPS Summer Internship 2020 in USA (Fully Funded)

What is RIPS?

Research in Industrial Projects for Student (RIPS) Program provides an opportunity for talented undergraduates studying math, computer science, and related disciplines to work in teams on real-world research projects proposed by sponsors from industry or the public sector. The student team, with support from their academic mentor and industry mentor, will research the problem and present their results, both orally and in writing, at the end of the program. The RIPS is nine weeks with 9 projects.

What will you do in RIPS?

  • First, in contrast to most summer research experiences that focus on an academic problem where students work closely with an academic mentor, RIPS students apply their mathematics knowledge to a real-world industrial problem, with an emphasis on problem solving using whatever methods are appropriate. In this way, RIPS is a cross between an REU and an internship. 
  • Second, RIPS students work on teams, with one student serving as project manager.
  •  Third, RIPS provides students an opportunity to explore careers in mathematics, science and technology. 
  •  Fourth, RIPS students learn report writing and public presentation skills that will be invaluable to them as they continue with an academic or professional career in an industrial setting.

  • RIPS is a program for students who are enrolled in or have just completed an undergraduate (bachelors) degree.

Every year since 2003, Action For Nature (AFN), a U.S.-based non-profit, has sought to recognize and reward young people who are taking action to solve the world’s tough environmental problems. We are proud to honor the work of young people between the ages of 8 and 16 all over the globe who have done creative environmental projects with a cash prize, certificate of achievement, and public recognition.

The United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs is looking for young persons (ages 18 – 24) motivated to use their talents to help raise awareness and promote change for a more peaceful and secure world.

In addition to young people with an interest in international affairs or international relations, we also strongly encourage individuals with a background in other areas such as history, science, economics, languages, film, media, dance, song, theater, visual arts, creative writing or any other field to submit an application.

Our intention is to bring together an eclectic and geographically diverse group of young people, from across the globe, who can become advocates for disarmament.

Benefits

  • The ten youth champions will receive training in general principles of disarmament, non-proliferation and arms control through on-line courses and a two-week in-person study tour in Vienna, Geneva, Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The study tour will take place in June 2020
  •  Youth Champions will exchange ideas with disarmament experts from think tanks, civil society organizations and the diplomatic field, and develop their own plans on how to engage in their communities on issues related to disarmament, non-proliferation and arms control.

About IACS Summer Camp

This program is a non-degree and will be lasted for three months. During the program, awardees will be evenly divided into 6 groups where each group will be placed by the organizing committee to different arts centers located in 6 provinces, namely: Bali; West Sumatera; East Kalimantan; East Java; South Sulawesi and Yogyakarta.

Awardees will lives within or close to arts center, allowing for the chance to experience the local heritage and heritage and interact with the local community. Synergy between theory and practices shared inside and outside the arts center would undoubtedly become the driving force for shaping international cultures and norms, and will eventually strengthen regional as well understanding and cooperation at a people-to-people level.

Objective

The program also has an objective to encourage better understanding amongst participants from member countries through Indonesia’s immensely diverse arts and cultural heritage.

The program aims to cultivate a culture of cooperation, emerging from direct contact and sharing of cultures among people involved in the program, leading to thriving diplomatic relations in the region and worldwide.

Background

The initiative on Scholarship Offerings for ASEAN Researchers Graduate Programs in Science and Engineering is a Philippine commitment at the sidelines of the 9th Informal ASEAN Ministerial Meeting Science and Technology (S&T) held on October 29, 2016 in Cambodia. Originally, it was established to commemorate the 60th year of the diplomatic relations between Philippines and Cambodia. In line with the objectives of the ASEAN STI Partnership Contributions particularly on the ASEAN-help-ASEAN scheme, the initiative is extended to researchers from Lao PDR and Myanmar.
This has been established to promote human resource development in engineering and sciences for sustainable socio-economic development of the ASEAN region.

  3. Have passed the admission requirements of the graduate program in the Philippines supported by this project
  4. Have a BS degree in engineering and science for the PhD degree
  5. Be endorsed by the Sending Institution in his/her home country, which expect them be faculty staff/researcher after completion of the graduate program
  6. Meet at least one of the following academic performance standards:
    ◾class rank within top 15% in their final or most recent year’s class of Bachelor’s degree
    ◾Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) at least 3.0 in the 4-scale grade system or 7.5 in the 10 scale grading system in Bachelor’s degree
    ◾Equivalent to remarkable academic achievements with evidence support. The Certificate Letter on Academic Standing is required.
  7. Have sufficient English proficiency to study and carry on their research in English
  8. Not have criminal/administrative cases
  9. Be in good health, both physically and mentally.

Scholarship Award

The scholarships cover tuition fees, monthly stipend, book allowance, transportation and group accident insurance, thesis and dissertation grants and a round-trip air ticket, in accordance with the Philippines government regulations:

Science & Technology (S&T) Undergraduate Scholarship in Singapore (Fully Funded)

The Science & Technology Undergraduate Scholarship is a freshmen scholarship offered to support outstanding students from Asian countries (excluding Singapore).

Candidates will be considered and shortlisted for the scholarship through their applications for undergraduate admission to NUS. No separate application is required for the scholarship.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must:

  • Be citizens of an Asian country, excluding Singapore
  • Have strong leadership qualities and potential
  • Present excellent co-curricular activities records
  • Possess outstanding high school results
  • Be applying for admission to a full-time undergraduate degree programme in Computing, Engineering or Science (excluding Pharmacy) at NUS

Scholarship Benefits

  • Tuition fees (after MOE Tuition Grant Subsidy) and compulsory fees
  • S$6,000 annual living allowance
  • S$200 one-time settling-in allowance upon enrolment
  • Annual accommodation allowance equivalent to the lowest double room rate for on-campus accommodation
  • One-way air passage from home country to Singapore at the beginning of the course of study, and return air passage from Singapore to home country at the end of the course

Terms & Conditions

  • The scholarship is tenable for undergraduate studies in Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computing (Business Analytics), Computing (Computer Science Courses), Computing (Information Systems), Computing (Information Security), Computer Engineering, Data Science and Analytics, Electrical Engineering, Engineering, Engineering Science, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Studies (Environmental Biology specialisation only), Food Science & Technology, Industrial & Systems Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Science (excluding Pharmacy), at NUS.
  • The scholarship is tenable for the normal course duration of the undergraduate course at NUS.
  • Recipients of the scholarship (scholars) are required to serve a six-year bond with a Singapore-registered company immediately upon graduation.
  • Scholars may not concurrently hold any other scholarship, fellowship, bursary, grant, award or allowance without prior approval from the University.
  • The scholarship will be monitored and renewed every semester provided the scholar maintains a Cumulative Average Point (CAP) of at least 3.5 (or equivalent) and good conduct.
  • Scholars are restricted to 1 semester of overseas programme(s) (including but not restricted to NUS Overseas Colleges and overseas Student Exchange Programme) for the entire course of their undergraduate studies. 
  • Scholars will be required to take part in community involvement programmes or projects deemed appropriate and/or directed by the University.
  • NUS does not guarantee and/or provide scholars with employment upon graduation.
  • If the scholar decides to withdraw from the University and/or terminate the scholarship prematurely, the University reserves the right to impose repayment of all scholarship monies disbursed to the scholar.

Application & Shortlisting Process

  • All applicants for undergraduate admission to NUS will be considered automatically for the scholarship through their applications for admission.
  • Applicants will be assessed on their suitability for the scholarship, based on the strength of their applications and/or their performance in the scholarship selection interview(s), if shortlisted. 
  • Applicants shortlisted for the selection interview(s) will be informed via e-mail, and will be required to provide a submission furnishing their co-curricular activity and other achievements, and a personal statement, before the interview(s). Selection interviews will be conducted from March to June, and shortlisted candidates will be informed of the scholarship outcomes by mid-July.
  • NUS reserves the right not to award any scholarship if there are no candidates of sufficient merit. The decision of the selection committee is final. Enquiries or disputes surrounding its decisions will not be entertained.
